March 2nd is Dr.Seussís Birthday & NEAís Read Across America

What better way to celebrate Dr. Seussí s birthday than reading to a child? Northbridge Elementary School will invite members of the community to visit preschool through grade 1 classrooms and read to students. National Education Association Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school. Dr. Seussís use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful. When we celebrate Dr. Seuss and reading, we send a clear message to children that reading is fun and important.
